Road Trip: Decew Falls

Chasing waterfalls? Here is one – actually two – not to miss. About 100km southwest of Toronto, just outside of St. Catharines is Decew Falls. It is home to two waterfalls, the larger falls are a short (and accessible) walk to view from the Morningstar Mill. For little hikers in TOw, hop on the Bruce Trail to head down to a little swimming hole. There is a tire swing for jumping into the river!

The hike along the river to the lower (and smaller) waterfall is a good 20-30 minutes one-way. Depending on your kids’ hiking ability, might be best for kids 6-ish and up.

TRIP TIPS:

Getting there: About a two-hour drive from Toronto. Free parking lot on-site.

What to bring/wear: Water, snacks, wear a bathing suit for a dip in the river. Wear runners or sandals you can hike in.

In the hood: If you’ve travelled that far – head over to Niagara Falls. For kids who love water parks, head to Great Wolf Lodge or Fallsview Indoor Water Park.
