So it’s here. March Break. And you’re hanging out in the city. No plans? No problem, we’ve rounded up nine outings (and then some) that have caught our eye this year for March Break in Toronto. There are some really good combos here. What’s on your list?
- HOCKEY LOVERS: We’re really excited about the new exhibit at the Hockey Hall of Fame. 9 & 99 HOWE AND GRETZKY EXHIBIT pays homage to these mega goal-scorers Mr. Hockey and The Great One. During March Break only, there is a special photo off of the historic net that Wayne Gretzky used to score his 802nd goal to become the NHL’s all-time leading scorer, plus the gloves, stick and puck that achieved this milestone. Each day of March Break, the first nine families receive a complementary photo package with the Stanley Cup & $10 Esso Gift Card.
Trip tip: While you’re downtown, the Museum of Illusions is a 10-minute walk away. And on March 15-17th, COMICON Toronto is at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
2. LEGO LOVERS: It’s LEGO MOVIE DAYS at LEGOLAND DISCOVERY CENTRE until March 30, 2019. Visitors on weekends can help build a LEGO Mosaic, create their own movie-themed escape vehicle, make their own stop-motion scene, build a get-away structure for a LEGO zip line, and have some special photo opps and Character Meet-and-Greets. The characters stop by on weekends at 12 p.m. 2 p.m and 4 p.m. If you haven’t seen Lego Movie 2: The Second Park yet, here’s the Toronto schedule.
3.TECHIES: There is an all-ages Kids Digital Festival on March 12-14, 2019 at the Open Space Gallery at OCAD University. The event features interactive exhibitions, daily workshops, AR, VR, robotics etc, including a ‘digital sandbox’ of interactive installations and STEAM products.
4. SUGAR SHACKS: GTA Sugar Shacks are in full swing. They are a fun and easy day trip to get the kids outside and exploring nature with the ultimate bribe: maple syrup. We’ve had great experiences at Maple Town in Mountsberg west of Milton, Bronte Creek in Oakville and Kortright Conservation Area.
Trip Tip: For an urban and FREE experience, Sugar Shack T.O. is set up at Sherbourne Common March 10 and 11 weekend.
5. TOY SOLDIERS (AND MUCH MORE) AT THE ROM: Yup, it will likely be busy, but Toronto’s attractions like the ROM are pulling out all the stops for families in T.O. They have a full line-up of activities including a new exhibition of its toy soldier collection. You may have had a peek if you travelled up the Stairs of Wonders – starting March 9th, the whole Hal Jackman Toy Soldier Collection will be on display.
Trip tip: Just down the street, the Bata Shoe Museum is hosting a Hollywood star-studded event with movie-themed games, activities and costumes. – admission is $8 per kid/adult.
6. IMAGINE DRAGONS AT CASA LOMA: okay, not thee Imagine Dragons. There will be interactive and live theatrical dragon shows and bouncy castles at the end of the underground tunnel. The castle stays open late until 9 p.m. during March Break.
7. DANCERS IN TOW: Alice in Wonderland – one of the greatest children stories – hits the stage with the National Ballet of Canada from March 7 to 17.
8. BEACH TIME: It’s free, it’s outside. This year’s edition of Winter Stations along Woodbine Beach does not disappoint. There are six new colourful art installations all in walking distance of each other – great for little legs in TOw.
9. SKATING BOARDING SHOWS AT THE SCIENCE CENTRE: Skateboarding athletes from CJ’s SKATEPARK perform amazing tricks and stunts right in the Science Centre. Shows at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Trip tip: While you’re there, check out the latest IMAX presentation of the Great Bear Rainforest.
