Winter Stations 2020 at Woodbine Beach

The Winter Stations — the annual art event where artists, architects and designers creatively take over the lifeguard stations at Woodbine Beach — is back. And this year’s free event presents four installations that you can experience by sight, sound, touch, smell and AR.

There are three international submissions and one from Toronto’s Centennial College that explore the theme Beyond the Senses.

Get outside now – their work is on display starting Family Day Monday February 17 to March 30, 2020.

Here’s the line-up:

Kaleidoscope Of The Senses by Charlie Sutherland (Edinburgh, UK) is a bell tower structure that that when hit by wind creates sounds and a chimney that emits aromas of oil in the beach sand. (Photo below.)

The colourful Noodle Feed (photo at the very top – IRL not AR!) by iheartblob (Vienna, Austria) uses an augmented reality app so that visitors can download on their phone and leave their own digital virtual impressions for others on the app can view.

The Beach’s Percussion Ensemble by Students from Centennial College is a series of stacked wooden shapes fitted with metal bells and sticks circling a steel drum. 

Mirage by Cristina Vega and Pablo Losa Fontangordo (Madrid, Spain) reacts to movement from the sun and people in its orbit and appear red or bright yellow depending where a visitor stands.
