I am not sure who laughed more – me, my eight year-old or grandma in TOw – at this year’s holiday panto A Christmas Carol, the Family Musical with a Scrooge Loose on now until December 31, 2017 at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre. The beauty of the hilarity is that we were all laughing at different things, and sometimes just laughing at each other laughing, as the cast of characters tell the classic tale of a grumpy greedy Ebenezer (Cyrus Lane) and his journey to capture the Christmas spirit.
If you’ve been to a Ross Petty Production, the singing, dancing and costumes are top-notch. The jokes are adult funny and there are giggles guaranteed for the littles with the awesome sexy/silly Plumbum (Dan Chameroy).
The boo’s too were fun but this year’s edition had some extra woo hoo’s with Jane (AJ Bridel), Scrooge’s executive assistant and her fearless attitude and stand-out messages — among them demanding equal pay. (Heck yeah!) And the appearance of Ellen Sogenerous (played by Eddie Glen) was so well played.
As Toronto audiences have come to expect, there was a little something for every age. Now, it was my youngest’s first experience at a Ross Petty Production. Five-years-old and super serious, he mostly stared wide-eyed in awe as the story unfolded, hid his eyes when the ghosts and zombies arrived, and nearly lost his mind when I showed him this video. She’s a boy?!
Welcome to the world of Ross Petty!
