Our market-hopping continues. On Thursdays we head to East Lynn Park where a cozy farmers’ market has been in the hood since 2007 thanks to DECA (the Danforth East Community Association. They got it going on – check out this neighbourhood’s offerings.)
The weekly market runs from 3 pm to 7 pm (until October 9th this year.) We love it for its layout. We start at Danforth Ave on the park’s north end and wander down the sidewalk checking out the ten-or-so vendors, plus some local restaurants and businesses offering up their goods.
Once we pick up our market treats, it’s all about play time. There is a “Kids Korner” with programs set up nearby along the hill to the east. The wading pool (open in the summer months of course) is in the middle. The playground with two climbing structures (on woodchips) is located on the south end with a new sandbox. Word is a ping pong table is being installed. In between and all over, there is lost of room to picnic and visit with friends.
TRIP TIPS:
Getting there: Driving, there is paid street parking along Danforth Ave and some free residential parking on nearby streets (although some are only one-hour.) By TTC, get off at Woodbine Subway Station and walk west along Danforth Ave.
Mark your calendars: The annual Arts Fair takes over East Lynn Park on September 14-15, 2014.
Pop-Up Shops: DECA has created a fantastic network of business owners and landlords who open their empty storefronts to local entrepreneurs and artists. There has been over 20 pop-up shops since 2012.
In the hood: There are loads of family-friendly options. For indoor play: Art Cave, Oaks n Acorns and Kids’ Fun Town; Shopping – Silly Goose Kids and kid crafts at Deserres Art Store; For food: Celena’s Bakery and Carter’s Ice Cream.
