Dads love to play. So why not say thank you with a playdate of his own? There are so many ways for the guys to be guys in this city – or, if he’s into hanging with the family on Dad Day, the whole crew can definitely tag along.
So, for dads who…
Like BBQ — The annual Beach BBQ & Brews Festival is an outdoor event at Woodbine Park all Father’s Day weekend. It’s free – guys just need to buy their eats and drinks. Any day of the week, send a bunch of dads out for some Texas-style eating. Triple A BBQ has three locations – the newest on Gerrard St. East has a pinball machine, arcade games and little kid-area if he wants to make it a date with the kids in TOw.
Like to throw things — We don’t mean baseballs or footballs. We’re talking about learning how to (safely) huck knives at Knife Throwing Toronto. There are open throw nights, or if he’s a bit nervous (or I mean keen), book him a private lesson. To play with bigger blades, head to BATL Grounds where he can drop-in or gather a group of guys for more private lumberjack-ing. (You actually don’t cut wood – this is what it looks like.)
Need to cool off — How does some alone time in minus 150C sound? Cryotherapy at Pursuit OCR is a (short three-minute) freezing treatment in a high-tech machine that uses the cold temperatures to trigger the body’s natural healing processes. While he’s there (or instead), let him play around in the adult obstacle course. (Family time is on Sundays.) Nothing like hanging out in a ball pit with his dad-buds.
Like to climb — Toronto boasts tons of rock climbing gyms across the city, but for extra adventure, send him out of the city for some real outdoor rock climbing at Rattlesnake Point in Milton with Adventure Seekers Tours. Maybe he’d prefer swinging from trees. There are Treetop Trekking and zipling locations at Horseshoe Resort near Barrie, Scenic Caves near Collingwood and in the Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area in Stouffville. (The latter has the Treewalk Village, an area specifically for little kids – but adults are welcome to play.)
Like stuff — So maybe he does need stuff. And if you need ideas, Giftagram, the Toronto-based uber-style gift-giving app has a Father’s Day category (things like private golf lessons with Henry Brunton or spa and sports massage at Hammam Spa.)
Like socks — Socks can be really rad. We recommend checking out Toronto sock seller Yo Sox’s cool designs (and Sock of the Month Club) online or at their Queen West location. Plus, a purchase of 1 Pair of Yo Sox provides 1 meal for a person in need via organizations like Food Banks Canada.
