Sweater weather, pumpkin spice, fall harvest. However you describe October, this month’s calendar is piling up with things to do with the family in TOw. We got a long list of all the activities that will make this month memorable for your kids, and especially your teens in TOw.

1. First thing’s first: it’s fall and time to take in the colours, go for a hike, and pick some apples. Toronto and surrounding TOwns are bustling with festivals and farms surging up the best of fall. Where to go? Here’s a great list of all the go-to’s. In the city, enjoy the fall harvest at one of the city’s farmers markets before they shift indoors.

2. Salmon on the run. The Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is hosting a free family-friendly event at Morningside Park on Sunday, October 5th. If you missed it IRL, have a look at their website for more salmon adventures in the GTA. There’s an interactive map with the best places to spot salmon in the Toronto & GTA waters.

3. Road trip: Oshawa. Why? A new playground and park. If you’re heading east of the city, be sure to stop by the Rose Valley Park. While it has a great new playground and lots of green space, it also boasts pickleball, BMX and a mountain bike park for the older kids in TOw.

4. Drive-in for the win. Runway Reels at YZD Runway is screening a family-friendly movie Lilo & Stitch on Saturday, October 4th. Already busy? Head over the former runway to weekly activities. On Sundays in October, there are free family-friendly workshops as part of the Tricks & Treasures offers free family-friendly workshop. For the Gen-Xers in TOw, you can dive into the history of the Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition.

5. All-night art party: Nuit Blanche returns October 4th-5th. The free open-air festival from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. features immersive installation, exhibits and live performances under the theme Translating the City. Plan your trip with this interactive map

6. More art. If you’ve got teens in TOw, you know they like wandering around in parks. Get them to tag along with you to check out these free public art installations: Glow in the Park at Berczy Park (until October 29th) and Copper Canopy part of the Water/Fall Festival at Harbourfront (until November 16th.)

7. Boo! Past the days of trick or treating? If your kids in TOw are looking for more gore than sweets, you may want to suggest a haunted adventure. 13 Rooms in Cloverdale Mall offers up an immersive horror photo experience – great for the parent and teen content creators. For more haunted thrills, Screemers, just north of the GTA in Assemby Park in Vaughan, features seven haunted mazes (with live actors), and a midway. It’s all housed under a big tent so rain or shine, you and your teens in TOw can get spooked. (Not recommended for 10 & under or scared-y cats like me.) In TOwn, the Casa Loma grounds transform once again into the Legends of Horror, an immersive one-hour two-kilometre theatrical experience. Trip tip: There are family hours for those with younger children take place from 5-6 p.m. (no actors, but all the spooky lighting effects. For the full experience, note that 16 & under have to be accompanied by an adult.

8. More spook? Here are a few options: Ghost walks at Exhibition Place (proceeds go to the United Way); Ghosts of the Don Valley at Evergreen Brick Works; and Spirits of the Distillery District Ghost Tour

9. Last call: Home Game: Toronto Loves Basketball by the Museum of Toronto is closing at Harbourfront October 12th and Rough & Ready: A History of the Cowboy Boot at the Bata Shoe Museum is done end of October.

10. Sports fans in TOw? The Blue Jays are on their way in the post-season and the Raptors and Maple Leafs kick of their season this month. ICYMI, timed with the NHL’s return, is a new YouTube channel by Leaf William Nylander. Number 88 is also one of the featured players characters in the second season of NHL Faceoff, just released on Prime. See the trailer.
