We’re in love.

Corktown Common, the 18-acre park located at the foot of Bayview Ave in the West Don Lands, is truly a park promised land.

Tucked in between the DVP, Canary District construction project and GO/CN rail lines, access is via Lower River Street, south of Eastern Ave (also via bike along the Lower Don Trail from the east.) Make the trek. You will not be disappointed.

Paths lead over and around naturalized marsh area with native plants to an incredible playground and splash pad built right into nature. Big and small slides, beautiful sand with a water source and swings and teeter totters on wood chips — all separate from a huge splash pad that is surrounded by large rocks. Lots of space to sit and one area is shaded. It’s made of that soft rubber padding, making it even baby-friendly.

TRIP TIPS

Getting there – it ain’t easy if you’re not familiar with the hood. On transit, take King or Queen St car and get off at River St. walk south. Driving, there is paid street parking along Queen, King and some side streets (depending on the construction.)  If you’re able to bike over, do it. The Don River Trail runs right into the park though you will have to take your gear up the stairs.

Splash Pad – open daily from 10 am to 6 pm.

Bring a picnic – a perfect getaway from the city in the city. Lots of open space and grass, plus a few picnic tables. Drinking fountains next to washrooms. Tons of train and digger spotting.

Potty time – two family accessible washrooms with change tables open daily from 8 am to 8 pm.

Can’t get enough play – stop at Underpass Park en route.
