Since my last trip to the east end Italian eatery Lil’ Baci (Queen St. E just west of Logan Ave) was ages ago and without kids, it was time to try it with the lil’ ones.
Two moms with two four-year-olds in tow, we headed to the backyard patio on a glorious sunny Sunday. Although it was 5 pm (a respectable hour to bring tots), there were quite a few diners-without-kids. We stopped in our tracks and told the server that we’d opt for indoors in case the kids were too busy for the patio patrons.
And his response? “This is Leslieville, everyone’s used to it.”
Despite his encouragement, we chose a table inside.
Though their menu doesn’t have kid meals in writing, have no fear. They do offer kid-size versions of their delicious margarita pizzas and spaghetti and meatballs two ways (tomato sauce or cheese and butter.) Our server gave great feedback and offered to bring the kids’ meals out first. They must have done this before. Kids were fed, happy and continued playing while we had our pizzas (and wine.)
TRIP TIPS:
Getting there – on transit, take the Queen St. streetcar, get off at Logan Ave and walk west. Driving, there is lots of residential parking or paid parking on Queen St. East (Sundays are free along Queen E!)
Go early – families are in the majority when dinner service begins at 5 pm and like many restaurants, they are always happier to get the kids fed (and mess cleaned up) before prime dinner hours. Busiest family times are at 5 pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Potty time – washrooms on main floor; change table in the women’s.
Keep ’em busy – yes to high chairs but no crayons for colouring so pack your own entertainment if needed.
Run ’em – check out Jimmie Simpson Park – a half-block west.
Treat ’em – top off the meal with dessert at Ed’s Real Scoop – a block east.
