At the east end of the colourful stretch of Gerrard St. E, known as the Gerrard India Baazar, you’ll find Lazy Daisy’s Café. This bright, cozy and always welcoming restaurant has become a neighbourhood staple.

And a go-to spot for families to gather and enjoy delicious farm fresh food (especially weekend brunch.) With a train table and a basket of books, there are just enough distractions for the little ones. You may actually get to finish your latté. And that chocolate salted caramel brownie? The kids didn’t even notice you ordered it.

TRIP TIPS:

Getting there: Paid street parking along Gerrard St. (Free on Sundays until 1 pm.) Most of the residential street parking is one-hour only. By TTC, both the Coxwell bus and Gerrard St. streetcar stop right there.

Kids eat: The menu is very kid-friendly from the sure-to-please grilled cheese and bagels to the more adventurous tuna-melts and burritos. With the offerings made-to-order, you can ask to mix up some sides to ensure the kiddos are content. A new kid breakfast is available daily.

Brunch: Special brunch menu on weekends from 8:30am to 2:30pm.

Gluten-free and vegan: Yes – goodies often include a gluten-free black bean brownies, lemon poppy seed loaf and cookies. You can swap in gluten-free bread (99 cents) for the sandwiches. Soup is often vegan and gluten-free.

Coffee: Pilot.

High chairs: Yes.

Strollers: You can fit a couple in the café, tucked in by your table, but better yet, park ’em outside.

Potty time: Two bathrooms downstairs; change table in the bathroom on the right. (The lost and found bin is also down there.)

More play: Need more entertaining? There are over 50 board games (for a small fee to cover the cost of the playing time and replacement pieces.) Kids games are $2, classics are $5 and modern games are $10. And check out upcoming events for the next Trivia Night!

More kid-friendly: Toy store Swag Sisters is next door.
