Can’t say my kids are the best at browsing, so I usually go solo when toy shopping. That changed when I recently brought my toddler to Treasure Island Toys (on the south side of Danforth Ave at Carlaw Ave) for some play time. Story time, in fact.
The free twice-a-week gathering (Mondays at 3:30 pm and Thursdays at 10:30 am) in a nook at the back of the store is just one of this independent toy store’s many offerings. Look out for Summer Crafts (drop-in) on Wednesdays from 10 am – 1 pm starting in July and the return of Science Afternoons (sign-up).
On your way out (or by) you’ll often see (and stop) at the water or sand table set up at the front of the store. And, if you’re like me, you’ll likely need to pick up another gift for the never-ending birthday party circuit. Can’t make it in person? They recently relaunched their website for online purchases.
TRIP TIPS:
Getting there: Driving, there is paid street parking ($2.25 per hr) on the Danforth or some free one-hour residential parking in the hood. On TTC, closest subway station is Pape. Cross to the south side of Danforth Ave and walk west.
Drop-in: Check their events page or join their mailing list for promotions and activities they have planned.
Potty Panic: In case of emergencies there is a bathroom with baby change table that can be unlocked for public use.
In the hood: Withrow Park (south of the Danforth between Carlaw and Logan) has lots of room to run and picnic. There is playground along Logan. A new playground is in progress (on the north end) with completion date expected for end of July. Along the Danforth, there are lots of restaurants, cafés and shops (if your kids are shoppers!) The Clay Room is a few blocks west and Mini-Nastics a few blocks east.
