Welcome #100. Last month the Toronto Public Library unveiled the new Scarborough Civic Centre Library, the newest place to read, study, surf the net and 3D print (it’s the third after Toronto Reference Library and Fort York Library to have a Digital Innovation Hub.)
Getting there: Driving, it’s located north of Ellesmere Dr. in between Brimley and McCowan Roads. There is paid street parking on Borough Drive and 158 Borough Drive. ($1.50/hr) On TTC, the Brimley Road and McCowan Road buses stop at Scarborough Town Centre or Ellesmere Road bus stops at Borough Approach East. On subway, Bloor/Danforth Line to Kennedy then Scarborough Line to Scarborough Town Centre. Stroller-friendly – no stairs.
Low-down: Free of course. Closed Sundays. Open 9 am to 8:30 pm Monday to Thursday and open 9 am to 5 pm Friday and Saturday. As with all branches, you can access the Museum + Arts Pass here. It has a green roof and outdoor reading garden.
Potty time: Yes to Family Washroom.
Food: While there are some seating in the kids’ area (comfy turning blue chairs), be considerate and snack outside. There is a patch of grass outside.
In the hood: On the south side, there is a small green space across the street and short path that leads to Ellesmere. Just north is the Scarborough Town Centre and a short drive south along Brimley Rd is the Scarborough Museum.
