Weekend Wagon – Dec 1-3, 2017

Okay, so it’s kind of a long weekend (for those with kids who have a PA day on Friday.) Time to get around TOwn and  festive. Here’s where:

CBC Kids are at CBC Toronto’s Sounds of the Season – get up SUPER early to join the Metro Morning gang or meet up with the PJ Maks, sing-along with Gary, Dot and CBC Kids hosts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, December 1. Admission is free. (Cash and food donations are welcome to support GTA food banks.)

 

The Toronto Christmas Market is free on Friday until 5 p.m. There is an extra Santa Sing-along at 2:30 p.m. on Friday for the PA day.

 

Winter Village at Evergreen Brick Works starts this weekend (and on every weekend in December, plus week days December 27-29). Street curling, ball hockey, board games, s’mores over campfires and lots of outdoor exploring. If you go on Sundays, you can shop at the Etsy Holiday Market. Admission is free.

 

The Holiday Fair in Nathan Phillips Square (pictured above) kicks off on Friday and is on until December 23. There is a ‘holly jolly midway’, food and shopping, plus Santa is scheduled to be there on weekends. Can’t make it this weekend? It’s open Tuesday to Friday from 4 to 10 p.m. and on weekends 12 to 10 p.m. Closed Mondays. Free admission.

 

Toronto mom and children’s book illustrator Carey Sookocheff will at Queen Books in Leslieville reading her books Solutions for Cold Feet and Buddy and Earl Go To School at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017. It’s free! (PS – it’s Queen Books’ holiday diaper drive this weekend on behalf of Nellie’s Toddlers and Infants.)

 

Solar Observing at the Ontario Science Centre on Saturday, December 2nd Safely observe the sun with specially filtered telescopes. Learn about our nearest star and try your eye at spotting exotic surface features, including sunspots, spicules and prominences. This program is offered by members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Free. Inside, we recommend the Inventorium and MakerBean Cafe.
